Dreamfyre carries torch for Flameaway in this year’s Breeders’ Cup

Flameaway will be represented by his first Breeders’ Cup starter Friday at Santa Anita Park when the undefeated filly Dreamfyre runs in the $1 million Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1).

With nearly $1.4 million in progeny earnings, 15 individual winners and a pair of stakes winners, Flameaway is in the top five in each category on the First-Crop Sire list.

Dreamfyre, who has graded stakes wins on both turf and the main track, was cross-entered in the Juvenile Turf Sprint, but her connections ultimately opted for the longer race. A bit unlucky to draw post 13 in the 14-horse field, Dreamfyre will likely use her formidable early speed to get to the front early in the race.

Trained by O. J. Jauregui for Danny Elpin, all three of Dreamfyre’s starts resulted in wins and have come in stakes races, starting with a listed race at Pleasanton Fair, then the Sorrento S. (G3) at Del Mar, and finally in the Oct. 8 grassy Surfer Girl S. (G3), over the same distance and surface as Friday’s one-mile race.

Dreamfyre has earned $285,000 in her three wins. She sold to her owner for $140,000 at the 2023 OBS Spring 2-year-olds sale and was bred in Kentucky by John Oxley.

The Juvenile Fillies Turf is race seven, with a post time of 6:20 pm ET.
